Throne Room – The Magicians

From a few years ago; The Throne Room, at 6000sf, was one of the most beautiful sets I’ve modeled in Set Design.

Huge blocks of foam were carved into intricate shapes and profiles, CnC cut, or used as a mould for making plaster structures that could withstand fire and heat. We printed, in-house, the vinyl floor and covered it with layers of clear coat to make it look like polished tile. Then came the lighting.

Lighting played a significant role as there was no Electric (studio-type) lighting inside the main set. “Daylight” was from off-set which cast beautiful rays into the interior. Then 4 of the 6 main Helix Columns, which were cast in plaster, contained fire bars as well as using the Tempest Torch© Gas Lantern in the outer corridors to provide all light to the set.
